“Royal Northwesters” show promise

TEN teams lined up to test their bowling skills on a perfect autumn evening at the Warracknabeal Bowling Club on the first of five nights of competition.
No team suffered a bagel in any game so there should be good results as they all play each other, and improve, over time.
Leonie Saunders gave us a glimpse of what was to come by winning the “$5 spider” and then the “ditch to ditch”, which she generously allowed to go to second place, Ken Goodwin.
Th Royal Northwesters, consisting of Leonie, Belinda Muller and Rod Sinclair went on to win their two games thus getting off to a promising start.
Second most promising team is “The Forest Gimps”, skipped by new bowler Simon Cousins, and including Terry Smith and Gary McLean, they showed their opposition how to get close to the jack and won both their games.
The “Hardware Hotshots”, Necie Kranz, Dale Stronach and Peter Anderson, also won both games and will be a force as the nights progress.
Kevin Barton, a member of “Uniteds”, took out “first toucher” on the first end and with his team, wife Maree, and Isobel Davison, just missed a win in the first game then accounted for “Lights and Whistles” in the second.
Skipped by Megan Watts, “ Lights and Whistles”, learnt a lot about the game of bowls in a short time! Members Sue Watts and Donna McKenzie both had “wrong bias’s” and could have had a party after the game with Necie (“Hardware Hotshots”), Jason Keys (“Where’s ma car keys”), and Kym Stepney (“Nice and Easy”).
“Where’s ma car keys”, consisting of Kirsty and husband, Jason Keys and Ken Goodwin, were competitive without winning and were able to drive home!
“Nice and Easy” team, Andrea and Kym Stepney and Jo Keating won their first game then met the promising “Gimps” in the second. Everyone has a chance at this early stage.
“The Dark Horses”, Gaile and Noel Arnold with Julie Pearson, are just that, and should do well as the weeks go by. They won their second game comfortably.
“Young Guns”, Brodie Dennes, Bailey Watts and Toby Drage, started all guns blazing but were slowed by “Hotshots” to end with one win for the night.
“Card Sharps” didn’t quite get a win although they looked good on paper, with giant killer, Robyn Goodwin, Rhonda Fredriksen and Victoria Park lining up, but with this only the beginning we can expect things to change.
