DIMBOOLA A Grade netballers suffered a loss to third-placed Stawell Warriors on Saturday which saw them slip to fifth place in Wimmera netball.

The Roos lost their place to Nhill who claimed victory over Warrack Eagles and will look to bounce back this weekend when they face Southern Mallee Giants.

Stawell skipped to an early lead in the opening stanza when they led 13-7 at quarter time and was able to maintain their advantage throughout the match, leading by seven at three quarter time before running out 55-39 goal victors by the final whistle.

Shooter Olivia Jorgensen topped a strong game under the ring to shoot 31 goals, while Holly Ross defended hard to keep her Stawell shooting opponents at bay.

Saturday’s B Grade clash saw a tense battle to the final whistle as the Roos kept their finals chances alive when they claimed a vital 54-46 goal victory against the third-placed Warriors.

The Roos joined fifth-placed Ararat on equal points when they held out the Warriors challenges and claimed a vital four points with Isobelle Schorback leading the charge under the ring to hit an equal game-high 36 goals.

Defender Kayla Kalms enjoyed a good battle under the ring at the other end of the court to produce a prominent display for her team.

Despite suffering a loss to the second-placed Warriors in C Grade, the Roos maintained their fifth placing on the ladder after suffering a 42-20 goal loss.

The Roos fell behind early and struggled to keep pace, trailing by 15 goals at half time despite the best efforts of Abby Walter and Tasharna Petschel who teamed well under the ring for six and 12 goals respectively.

Junior netball saw a successful day for the Roos with two wins and a draw from the three games played.

The 17 & Under team produced a strong performance to claim a 53-23 goal victory and maintained their fifth placing, opening the match in style to lead 20-3 at quarter before powering to the line.

Katie Griffiths was strong through the midcourt and teamed well with shooter Lilly Schorback who topped her game with 24 goals.

In 15 & Under, the Roos produced a strong performance to draw level with the fourth-placed Warriors at the final whistle 20 goals apiece.

The Roos trailed early and came from two goals behind at three quarter time to level scores with Emily Taylor and Evie Everett teaming well through the midcourt to set up scoring chances.

Opening the day’s proceedings produced one of the games of the day when the 13 & Under Roos claimed a vital 39-34 goal victory and join the third-placed Warriors on equal points.

The Roos started well to lead 12-7 at quarter time and maintained its advantage to the final whistle and hold out all of their opponent’s challenges with shooter Lily Baker topping a strong game with 26 goals, finishing off the work of Tahnee Glover who was strong through the midcourt.
