DIMBOOLA has returned to Wimmera Football League’s winners list after producing a commanding performance over Nhill at Davis Park on Saturday.
The Roos controlled the contest in windy conditions to claim a 33-point victory, teaming well to set up the early ascendency before controlling the match to the final siren.
Other match ups throughout the league saw Minyip-Murtoa put a one-game break on Stawell in fifth place when they claimed a hard fought 12-point win over Horsham, as the Warriors struggled to match strides with Southern Mallee Giants who claimed a 27-point win at Beulah.
A 10-goal haul to leading forward Jarrod Garth saw Horsham Saints maintain their third placing when they proved too strong for Warrack Eagles at Brim to the tune of 75 points.
At Davis Park, Dimboola withstood an early challenge from the Tigers who dominated early possession as they attacked hard but were unable to find the big sticks as coach Jack Landt opened scoring with the first goal of the match after nine minutes of play.
Landt’s opener was followed by a goal to Simon Nuske before Landt landed his second for the term with a clever left foot snap into the cross breeze.
Hayden Walters then registered the Roos fourth major for the term from 20 metres as Tigers skipper Mitch Dahlenburg kicked the home team’s opening goal of the match.
With a three-goal buffer on the scoreboard, the Roos went to work to consolidate its strong opening, and through a low scoring second term, were able to extend it lead to 28 points at half time kicking the only two goals of the term.
Jono Ross received a delayed free kick for a holding the ball decision as both teams worked hard to set up scoring chances with the Tigers kicking an inaccurate five behinds for the quarter as Sam Godden finished the quarter with his first goal at the 25 minute mark.
The third term saw scoring again open up as the Roos kicked two quick goals through Lachie Mackley and Landt, who kicked his third for the day with a clever roving goal on the run, converting from 20 metres on a tight angle.
Godden then converted his second goal after a pass from Ross to give the Roos three goals in the first 11 minutes and a powerful eight-goal advantage on the scoreboard.
Xavier Bone answered for the Tigers after a winning a free kick and receiving a 50 metre penalty as the Tigers broke their run of behinds but found their answer short lived as Will Barber goaled from close range and Walters snapped a clever goal to give the Roos five goals for the term and a 52-point lead at three quarter time.
Looking to add some respectability to the scoreboard and improve on its 2.11 three quarter time score, the Tigers found a target in attack when Drew Schneider kicked successive goals in the opening five minutes.
His first came from a strong mark and 30 metre conversion before adding a second two minutes later with another strong mark from a Xavier Bone pass.
The goals briefly cut the margin before Godden kicked his third goal for the day after taking a strong mark and then receiving a 50 metre penalty to goal from square and when Landt kicked his fourth major for the day from another left foot snap, the Roos had taken back their 50 point lead.
Schneider then topped a three-goal term with another strong mark and conversion from 35 metres as the Tigers cut the final margin to 43 points at the final siren.
The Roos had many winners throughout the day with Aisea Raikiwasa again at forefront with another strong game off half back, teaming well with Ben Miller through the midfield.
Landt’s four goals were important to the outcome and with Jono Ross, Sam Godden and Patrick Lindsey were attacking up forward, while Jackson O’Neill produced his normal honest performance down back.
The Roos host Warrack Eagles this weekend at the Recreation Reserve.
