DIMBOOLA A Grade netballers have consolidated its position in the top five of Wimmera netball after a commanding victory over Minyip-Murtoa on Saturday.

The Roos remain in fourth place and have opened up a two-game break on fifth position after controlling their clash with the Burras to claim a big 75-42 goal victory.

The win was part of round six which also saw Horsham move into top position when they defeated Warrack Eagles 56-22, while Southern Mallee Giants celebrated their first win of the season when they beat Ararat 38-34.

At Central Park, Stawell retained their third placing with a hard-fought 35-32 goal win over Nhill.

On the Minyip court, Dimboola handled the blustery conditions with ease as they dominated the contest after quarter time when they led 18-11.

A second term, which mirrored the opening stanza, saw the Roos storm to a 36-22 goal lead when they doubled their quarter time score with shooters Olivia Jorgensen and Ashlee Morrish in good form under the ring.

The Roos maintained their accurate shooting and pin-point passing around the court in the second half when they added another 22 goals in the third term before finishing with 17 goals in the final stanza.

Jorgensen topped the day’s scoring with a game-high 40 goals, while Morrish shot 35, finishing off the work of Indy Ward who produced a strong game.

In B Grade, the fourth-placed Roos suffered a bit of an upset loss when they were defeated by the fifth-placed Burras 40-31.

The Roos fell behind in the second half when they struggled to keep pace with the home team with defender Kellie Laverty and centre Olivia Lehmann working hard to lift their team over the line and set up goalie Isoebelle Schorback who finished with 18 goals.

Dimboola C Grade has opened up a two-game break in fifth place on the ladder after claiming a hard-fought 26-23 goal win.

The Roos trailed at quarter time before edging their way in front at half time and maintaining its advantage to the final whistle with Ava Clark and Millie Dent controlling the wings with strong games while Tasharna Petschel shot 16 goals.

Dimboola junior teams enjoyed success with the 13 and 17 & Under teams claiming wins while the 15 & Under team suffered a loss.

The 17 & Under girls produced a powerful display to maintain their third placing on the ladder when they claimed a strong 45-17 goal win with shooter Sally Sellens topping her game with 21 goals and Lillyana Ylstra controlling through the midcourt to lead the way and set up Llily Schorback for 20 goals.

In 15 & Under, Minyip-Murtoa proved too strong when they claimed a 36-17 goal win as Maddie Petschel and Emma Glover teamed well to lift their team, while in 13 & Under, the Roos produced a big performance to claim a 24-6 goal victory.

Nikki Mackenzie and Elayna Ward teamed well through the court as Georgia Foster finished with a game-high 10 goals.

This weekend’s round seven matches will see the Roos return home to the Recreation Reserve when they host the strong Horsham Saints teams, while Ararat will host Minyip-Murtoa.

Nhill will return home to Davis Park when they host Southern Mallee Giants, while Warrack Eagles will also return to their home court when they welcome Stawell.
