DIMBOOLA A Grade netballers claimed a vital win in round nine of Wimmera netball when they defeated Ararat at Alexandra Oval on Saturday.

The Roos moved a game clear in fourth position on the ladder as the competition reached the halfway point of the season, joining third-placed Stawell on equal points.

Competition was split between the two teams with Dimboola winning all senior netball matches, while Ararat claimed wins in two of the three juniors games played.

The A Grade game saw the Roos come from behind in the second half as the Rats skipped clear early when they built a 16-10 quarter time lead and maintained a five-goal advantage at half time, leading 24-19.

The third term was where the Roos made their move scoring 15 goals to seven and took a narrow one goal lead into the final term which saw the Roos continue their strong second half form with another 16 goals to eight and take out a 50-41 goal victory.

Olivia Jorgensen came off the bench to shoot 23 goals for the Roos and with Billie Barber and Ashlee Morris shooting 17 and 10 goals respectively, ensured they finished off the work of team-mates through the midcourt and in defence.

The B Grade match was another tight battle where scores were locked together at 21 goals apiece at half time before the Roos skipped clear in the third term through some accurate shooting from goal shooter Isobelle Schorback.

Shooting 15 goals to eight in the third term, the Roos skipped clear before holding out the Rats challenges in the final term to claim a 45-40 goal victory.

In C Grade, the Roos maintained the closeness of the day’s senior action when they came from behind in the final term to claim a narrow two-goal win, 22-21.

Trailing by one goal at the last change, the Roos reduced the Rats to just two goals in the final term and finished with five goals with Millie Dent and Meg Redford leading the charge.

In a battle for fourth place in the 17 & Under game, Ararat came out victorious in the game of the day when they claimed a thrilling one goal win, 43-42.

Dimboola held a four goal advantage in each of the first three quarters before the Rats came home strongly in the final term to shoot 14 goals to nine and claim its thrilling win.

Tilli Menzel and Sally Sellens teamed well for the Roos through the midcourt to help set up Lilly Schorback and Tarah Bond for 21 and 17 goals respectively.

The 15 & Under clash saw Ararat claim a strong 33-21 goal victory with Maya Schorback and Emily Taylor teaming well, while in the 13 & Under game, the Roos climbed into fourth place when they claimed a 32-17 goal win between the fourth and fifth placed teams.

Lily Baker provided a strong scoring option to finish with 23 goals for the match.
