Rural Northwest Health (RNH) is excited to announce the appointment of a transition manager as Yarriambiack Shire moves out of their Aged Care Services role and RNH steps into the new Commonwealth Home Support Program (CHSP) from July 1.
Kathy Day is bringing over 20 years of experience in executive management to her new role, and is highly experienced in a range of human service fields and agency settings in metropolitan, regional and rural locations.
Ms Day is passionate in supporting the human rights, dignity, independence, choice and safe living of older citizens, with a strong focus on the prevention and response to elder abuse.
Ms Day said she is eager to support the transition of the Community Support Program to ensure a good outcome, and will draw on her experiences travelling through the USA, Canada, Scotland and Australia presenting at high-level conferences and conducting study tours.
“Travelling has enabled me to develop valuable networks that assist me in my role and in my everyday work,” she said.
“I was attracted to the role with RNH through my fundamental belief in rural health centres, and the right of rural residents receiving the same access to services and health outcomes as their metropolitan counterparts.”
RNH said Ms Day has an extensive and impressive range of qualifications and credentials that includes a Graduate Diploma of Case Management, a Master of Advanced Nursing Practice and Master of Business Leadership.
She is also a Registered Nurse and Trained Mentor, and her Masters’ degree focused on the case management of elder abuse.
Her writing has been recognised in guides on elder abuse prepared for Senior Rights Victoria and the Victorian Law Reform Commission, and has led to legislation changes in police certificates and education on elder abuse in aged care and the introduction of the initial Aged Care Complaints and Investigation Scheme.
On the personal side, Ms Day is devoted to her family, particularly visiting her sons and grandchildren - three of which reside in the USA.
She enjoys the company of her dogs and 4WD in very remote areas.
