Anzac Day 2023 saw renewed community connections ignite for RNH residents through sharing memories, mementos and photos, old and new, on social media.
Norma Decker from RNH Hopetoun’s leisure and lifestyle team said
“We love seeing positive comments on our posts and we share them with residents,” RNH Hopetoun’s leisure and lifestyle team member Norma Decker said.
“It delights them to hear these words of encouragement from the greater community.”
RNH chief executive Jenni Masters said it is important for residents to stay connected and relevant to their communities.
“When you think of what they’ve seen and done in their lifetimes - it’s fascinating,” she said.
“It is such a good reminder of the support they gave their fellow Australians, and it’s something we need to foster in our society today.”
Rita Rowney has found sudden celebrity, first with her celebrated social media post then profiled in last Friday’s edition of the Warracknabeal Herald.
Monday saw her interviewed by Rebekah Lowe on ABC Breakfast Radio and she had the honour of laying a wreath in Hopetoun’s Anzac Day Service - a busy week for a spritely 97 year old.
Masters also participated in the Warracknabeal Anzac Day Service with members of the RSL, laying a wreath at the gates of Anzac Memorial Park, while Yarriambiack Lodge resident Digger Winsall and family watched on.
“It was a moving experience and just as powerful as the Anzac services I’ve been to in New Zealand,” Ms Masters said.
“It’s a history both countries share.”
