Road resurfacing works were carried out on Federal and Winifred streets in Rainbow as part of the council's annual capital works program.

The council carried out the works on Wednesday, May 20, after allocating funding in the 2025/2026 annual budget to reseal both streets.

A council spokesperson said the works formed part of the ongoing maintenance of the shire’s sealed road network.

“Each year Council undertakes resurfaces of its road network as part of the annual capital works program, and it is important to renew road surfaces for longevity and to prevent water ingress into the pavement,” the spokesperson said.

The council said sealed road surfaces generally last between 15 and 20 years, depending on the type of seal.

Regular resealing helps protect the pavement and improve road longevity.

Line marking works on Federal Street remain outstanding, and the council expects to complete them by June 30.

Following community feedback received over several years, the council will also widen parking bays and install five disabled parking spaces at strategic locations.
