Re-arranging garage goes awry
A well-known elderly Warracknabeal couple, formerly business owners, escaped relatively unscathed after their car shot through their double garage and into their rear bedroom at the corner of Bell and Scott Streets last Wednesday evening.
Warracknabeal Fire brigade, ambulance, SES and police members attended the scene to rescue the couple from the wreckage of their home and car at 6.15pm.
The elderly lady was taken by ambulance to hospital for treatment and observation for apparently minor injuries.
Extensive damage was caused to the garage, which was constructed as part of their home.
It is understood the couple were trying to re-arrange their car and other items in the garage at the time.
The two roller doors were ripped from their mounts and pushed inside along with extensive brickwork, some of which fell on the woman as she tried to escape from the vehicle.
The car shot through double roller doors and through an internal wall into a rear room, believed to be a bedroom, but fortunately no-one was inside at the time.
The Shire building inspector investigated the damage at the site and SES members secured the building, to enable the vehicle to be extracted from the damaged garage.
At the time of going to press yesterday, the vehicle was still imbedded in the garage and the home and the garage site had been further secured.
