The Dimboola & District Tennis Association semi-final competition was a highly contested round as teams fought hard to win a spot in the Grand Final.
The first semi-final was played between Antwerp and Rainbow at the Health and Fitness Centre in Dimboola.
The excitement was high, and the game play was outstandingly close as Rainbow pulled off one of the upsets of the year to claim victory and make their way into their first grand final.
The Mixed was a tie breaker with both teams on 3 sets, 30 games as Rainbow pair Rhys Boehm and Maggie Fisher won the final set of the section 7-1 to level scores.
The Rainbow Men showed their grit and were too strong for Antwerp winning 5 sets, 49 games to Antwerp 4 sets, 53 games. Rainbow claimed the final two sets 7-4 and 7-5 to claim the section.
Standouts for the day were Rainbow’s Simon Clugston, Will Batson and Lucas Edelsten who all had tough hit outs in tie-breakers, seven to six.
The Rainbow Women worked extremely hard and won 7 sets, 58 games to Antwerp 2 sets, 36 games. Rainbow’s Maggie Fisher was the showstopper for the day and played some incredible tennis, winning all four of her sets.
The overall score was Rainbow 4.5 match points, 15 sets, 137 games to Antwerp .5 match points, 9 sets, 119 games.
The other semi-final, Brim forfeited to Warracknabeal due to not having enough players qualified.
The Grand Final will be played between and Warracknabeal and Rainbow at the Warracknabeal Anzac Park courts on Saturday March 18 at 1pm. Good luck to both teams.
