Rainbow Men's Shed shuffled
The Rainbow Men’s Shed will no longer operate on Wednesdays, according to a statement released by the Rainbow Learning Group and Neighbourhood House (RLGNH).
Until now, Rainbow had two Men’s Shed groups: the Rainbow and District Men’s Shed Inc that met on Wednesday mornings from 9.30am to 12.30pm, while the Rainbow Men’s Community Shed Group used to meet every Thursday during the same hours.
Both groups were also using the same facility at 9 King Street, Rainbow.
RLGNH confirmed it has discontinued the Wednesday Men’s Shed group and asserted that those who previously ran the program do not represent the organisation.
“Our Rainbow Men’s Community Shed Group program continues as usual,” RLGNH stated.
Rainbow and District Men’s Shed president Robert John confirmed his group still exists and continues to meet.
“I can’t say anything at this stage, as the government department is working on this matter,” he said.
“We currently have nine members and we are still in existence".
“We are still meeting every week, not in the same space but in one of our members’ sheds.”
RLGNH also addressed the issues in their statement, including ownership of the shed and the auspice agreement.
We are aware of false information, circulating online by individuals aggrieved by the decision of RLGNH to take back control of the program, which includes the misrepresentation of RLGNH’s ownership of the ‘shed‘ on our leased property at 9 King Street, Rainbow,” RLGNH stated.
“Claims that incorporating a new association has created ownership of the RLGNH Men’s Shed program.
“The nature of the Men’s Shed program offered by RLGNH, including that there was an ‘auspice‘ agreement in place which has never been the case.”
