Invited by the 5th Mildura Cubs and Issac, who wanted to climb a real mountain for his Adventurous Journey to complete his Peak Award in Cubs.

We not only climbed it but we also abseiled down it. Eight Cubs from Rainbow and 19 Cubs from 5th Mildura had a fantastic time, camping at Cooinda Burrong Scout Camp, Zumsteins.

Thursday was spent putting up tents and setting up. Friday morning, we headed off to conquer the mountain. Issac’s hike took us from the Wonderland car park, and from there, we hiked up to the Pinnacle.

An amazing hike that took us beside the impressive Grand Canyon, through rock tunnels and unique formations to the impressive view at the top of the Pinnacle.

The descent was just as incredible, testing our legs and stamina…. Might have just been some of the leaders!!! An incredible hike completed, with lots of stories to share.

Saturday morning was an early start to meet the Victorian Abseiling Team just outside Halls Gap to experience abseiling off a natural surface.

We split into 2 groups: one abseiling and the other off to Halls Gap Zoo, switching at lunchtime.

Under encouragement from the Abseiling Team, all our youth members were helped, praised and guided down the rockface.

Each youth member conquered their fears and had a go.

It was amazing to see them complete the challenge, and although many were still nervous, it didn’t stop them from having a second go.

Our Youth member were able to complete a lot of their core Outdoor Skills in Bushcraft, navigation and camping.

As a bonus, they also earned their Level 1 in Vertical Abseiling.

This term is very busy with Cubs preparing for District Cub Camp and Cuboree, which will be held during the September School Holidays.

Scouts have an overnight hike and a patrol-based camp. Rainbow Scout Group invites youth aged 7.5 years and older for a three-night trial.

If you would like more information on becoming a leader, please get in touch.

The group is happy to work with you to discover your Journey in Scouts.
