Brim’s Valda Hunter has been a fan of the Australian Women’s Weekly all her life, and was looking forward to travelling to Bendigo to celebrate the magazine’s 90th birthday.
The Australian Women’s Weekly is the country’s second-longest women’s magazine still in operation.
Ms Hunter was excited to be able to attend the Bendigo Art Gallery’s The Australian Women’s Weekly: 90 Years of an Australian icon exhibition, which has been running since May.
"I don't drive, so I was excited when they organised a bus from Horsham to take us there," she said.
"Now the bus has been cancelled because there weren't enough seats booked - there were 15 of us.
"I can get to Horsham and Warracknabeal, but all the way to Bendigo is harder to organise."
Ms Hunter can remember her own mother reading the magazine when she was a child, and has been a fan of the articles, patterns, and recipes since she was a teen.
"I remember the coverage of the 1956 Olympic Games," she said.
"I've used the patterns to make mine and my three children's clothes, and the recipies have been family favourites.
"I think it is an excellent magazine, still."
"It takes me nearly the full month to read what I was to, then the next one comes out."
Ms Hunter now hopes to find another like-minded community member who is planning to travel to Bendigo and might offer her a ride.
The exhibition closes on August 27, runs seven days a week from 10am to 5pm, and entry is free.
