'Pure determination' wins Laharum the 2024 reserve grade premiership
Laharum beat Swifts 7.5 (47) - 4.6 (30).
The Laharum Demons have won the 2024 Horsham District Football Netball League reserve grade premiership.
Despite the Swifts entering the game as favourite and playing on their own track, the Demons emerged victorious from the grand final, 7.5 (47) - 4.6 (30).
Laharum's reserves coach Daniel Down said it feels 'absolutely sensational' to see his side pick up the win in the decider.
"We've had a few tough years over at Laharum, this year was a huge fight back from the supporters, the board and the whole Laharum community. Everyone got around the club," Down said.
"So to bring a cup home, to repay what they've done this year is absolutely brilliant."
The first half favoured the Swifts, who led by seven points at half time.
But Laharum owned the second half.
Down said 'The pure determination of the boys' is what gave the Demons their upper hand.
"I've never played for a side so determined on getting that win and getting that cup," he said.
"We're not the most skilled side in the league, but we go out there and we want it more."
When weather struck in the second half, Laharum fought in, while Swifts were left goalless.
"[The weather] came through pretty horrible for a minute there, we got a little bit of hail and some pretty fierce winds ... but we love it, we like anything they can throw at us because it just means we fight back harder," Down said.
