'Pretty well nailed it': Horsham squash club happy with silver tournament

Horsham Squash Club hosted a successful weekend with the second editions of the 'Battle of the Border' and the junior silver tournament, drawing more than 60 players from Victoria and South Australia.
Club president Tim Hopper said he was proud of how well the club hosted the two tournaments on January 18 and 19.
"We had increased numbers on last year, and it ran much more smoothly. It was a great two days," Hopper said.
"We weren't happy with how it ran last year from our [the club's] perspective.
"We learnt a few things, but this year, I think we pretty well nailed it quite well."
The club had three juniors compete across the weekend as Lakshith Chawla, Oliver Doti and Charlie Murray all put their skills to the test.
Doti also competed in the Battle of the Border.
Chawla came away with three wins, while Doti had two and finished runner-up in the c grade competition.
Hopper was pleased with Doti's progress as last year's tournament was his first.
Doti, 16, also claimed a victory in the tournament against an opponent he had lost the previous day.
"For Ollie in particular, it's really good because he was actually in the same division he was last year, but he got smashed last year a bit," Hopper said.
"It was really good for him. He saw that he needed to improve by parts of his game, and he did."
Building on the momentum of a successful tournament weekend, the Horsham Squash Club is gearing up for a busy year.
Coaching sessions will take place on January 20 and 21, with three or four local players among 21 aspiring athletes honing their skills.
A domestic competition kicks off in February, while a highly anticipated masters tournament is set for mid-year.
