Preston guides Warriors over Bullants
Extreme heat saw the Horsham Cricket Association’s B grade competition round 10 matches revised to T20 matches with a 10am start on Saturday, January 24.
Among the impressive performances was the West Wimmera Warriors securing a last-over win over the Bullants on the back of a match-winning knock from Liam Preston.
Playing at Davis Park, the Warriors elected to bowl, with the Bullants finishing their innings at 4/119.
Dallas Hobbs was among the leading scorers for the Bullants with 35 runs, while Max Spokes (2/26) and Liam Preston (1/19) took the wickets.
In response, the Bullants had the home side at 2/13 in the fourth over when Preston came to the crease.
With contributions from Jordan Gurry (22) and Max Spokes (9 not out), Preston hit the running wins at the start of the 20th over to finish with 57 not out as the Warriors claimed a six-wicket win.
At Minyip Recreation Reserve, a big-hitting performance from the Panthers helped set up their victory over the Colts.
The Panthers elected to bat and after an impressive 39 from 17 balls from Ryder Hudson, Brent Hudson (59 of 39), Jake McKenzie (32) and Jonty Funcke (22) helped the home side to 6/177, with the side hitting 30 boundaries in the innings.
Drew Carmody (3/29) and Bradley Millar (2/26) were the pick of the Colts' bowlers.
Despite knocks of 76 not out from Steven Harrison and 32 from Bradley Millar, key wickets saw the Colts finish at 6/151.
Ryder Hudson claimed 2/32, while Caeleb Leith (1/13) and Seth Talbot (1/18) provided economical figures in each of their four overs.
At North Park in Stawell, the Tigers elected to bowl against Swift-Great Western, who managed 3/155 from their 20 overs.
Matthew Delzotto (58) and Craig Marrow (49) led the way for SGW, while Tom Iredell-Burke (2/29) and Cody Stewart (1/22) were the wicket takers for the Tigers.
In response, the Tigers fell short in their chase as they finished with 5/122 to hand the Combine side a 33-run win.
Joel Plazzer (36) and Chris Eagle (22) led the batting effort, while Matthew Delzotto backed up his batting performance to finish with 2/26 with the ball.
At Coughlin Park, St Mary’s elected to bat against the Saints and finished up at 8/65.
Jack Evans led Saint Mary's with 23, while Ben Sawyer (2/5), Jono Carroll (2/9) and Mark Crafter (2/15) all claimed two wickets each for the Horsham side.
Mark Crafter (31 not out) and Zachary Hamerston (18 not out) then had little trouble with the bat as they reached 0/67 in the 10th over.
At Jeffcott Oval, Donald Jeffcott won the toss and elected to bat against Brim KSH.
Bronte Campbell led the way for the home side with 56, while Baxter Donnellon (36 not out) and Bayley Burke (26) helped the side to 5/160.
Liam Stopps was the pick of the Eagles’ bowlers with economical figures of 1/12 off two overs.
Brim KSH then fell short in their innings, ending their 20 overs at 7/108.
Mark McPherson led the Eagles with 42 and Chris Stops had 19 not out.
For Donald Jeffcott, David Letts starred with the ball, taking 3/15, while Luca Rice had 2/24.
