TWENTY-SIX men and 11 women played in perfect conditions for golf on Saturday at the Warracknabeal Golf Club.
The Presidents team defeated the Captains team which created a bit of rivalry during the day, Presidents team had a score of -44 for the day versus the Captains team with -56.
Note, there was only two players who were in the plus scores for the day. It should also be noted that the Captains team was not very well led when the Captain himself had -9 (the worst score for his side). Sorry David K.
There was one score of +1 on both which was Daniel Kearns (hcp 16) who was the A Grade winner with Richard Bett (15) being runner-up on -1.
In B Grade, Derek Picken (26) had the other +1. Runner-up was Dave Trippett, also on -1. Other good scores on the day were Dean Gunn -2, Peter Schilling -2, Dennis Murphy -2 and Wayne Gove -3.
A thank you from the players goes to David Baxter and David Kranz (President and Captain) for sponsoring the day and providing the Challenge of playing V Par and putting all the players in a competition in teams. Well done.
Next weeks event will be part of our annual four-day tournament. The Saturday event will be a 36 hole 4bbb V Par event for men or an 18 hole stableford as an option.
The 18 hole option is for both men and women. There is also events on Thursday, Friday and Sunday. Check with club for details.
The ladies winner was Corinne Heintz (18) with 32 points followed by July Bayles (20) with 31 points.
Nearest the pin second shot ninth hole was Brenton Cheney. Closest on the fifth hole was no men and Carolyn Morcom, on the seventh hole was David Trippett and Corinne Heintz and on the 13th hole was Greg Pearson.
Palace Hotel Meal Run was played amongst 19 golfers last Thursday. Best score on the front nine holes was Ash Purdue (11) with 19 points followed by Gary Krahe (9) on 18 points.
The back nine holes was won by Gary Krahe (I think someone needs to check his medical records to see what was pumped into him during his illness) who had 20 points. Runner-up back nine holes was Keith Pearce with 17 points.
Overall winner was Gary Krahe with 38 points (stewards enquiry please).
Nearest the pin sevent hole was Ash Purdue and on the 13th hole was Dennis Murphy.
There will be no Meal Run sponsored by the Palace Hotel on Thursday due to the commencement of the tournament. However, instead of playing the normal Thursday event come and join in the event agenda for the day.
Joke of the week.
Did you hear about one of our golfers coming home drunk last Saturday night, got into bed and fell in a deep sleep next to his wife, when he awoke he was at the Pearly Gates where St Peter said, “you died in your sleep mate.”
Our poor golfer friend said to St Peter, “I’m stunned. No, I can’t be dead, I am still young and have so much to do. I have too much living to do, send me back.”
St Peter said, “the only way I can send you back is as a chicken, we need more chickens on earth.”
Our friend agreed but said, “can you send me back to somewhere on a farm near where I live so I can at least see my wife and my friends.”
Next thing he knows he is back to earth, clucking, covered in feathers and pecking seed from the ground. The rooster strolled past and said, “so you’re the new hen hey, how’s your first day.”
“Not bad, but I have a strange feeling inside, like I’m gonna explode.”
The rooster said, “you are ovulating, have you never laid an egg before.”
“Never” said our golfing friend.
“Just relax and let it happen,” said the rooster, “it’s no big deal.”
Next thing, after a few uncomfortable seconds sure enough out popped an egg. He was so overcome with joy and excitement another one dropped out, then another. How thrilled he was as he was experiencing motherhood.
As he was about to drop another one, his wife smacked him across the head, woke him up and said, “cut it out mate, you have come home drunk as an owl, and now you have just crapped in your bed.”
