Premiership victory 'surreal' for Edenhope Apsley Saints under 14s
Edenhope Apsley beat Noradjuha Quantong 8.3 (51) - 3.11 (29).
The Edenhope Apsley Saints have claimed the 2024 Horsham District Football Netball League under 14 premiership.
The Saints had fought through the elimination finals, semis and a prelim, and have now beaten the Noradjuha Quantong Bombers, 8.3 (51) - 3.11 (29).
Saints under 14s coach Allan McIntyre said 'it's a bit surreal' to see his footballers claim the cup.
"It's been a hard year, been a long year, but the kids have been great the last few weeks and really wanted it," he said.
A strong first quarter saw Edenhope Apsley take control early.
At the first break the Saints led 20-7.
"Everything just sort of clicked," said McIntyre.
A lot of times they start off slow, but fight back, today from the very get go, [they were] on the ball, ready to go."
The Bombers did prove competitive through the midfield, but suffered with inaccuracy inside 50.
At three quarter time, Edenhope Apsley led by 19 points, and Noradjuha Quantong, who to that point had kicked three goals, would need at least as many again.
But, Edenhope Apsley played the game out well and kept control through the final term.
"It's something that we've really prided ourselves on the last few games," said McIntyre.
Edenhope Apsley's Marcus McIntyre claimed the match's best on ground.
