A solar panel worth $480 was taken from the Warracknabeal Transfer Station staff office last week.
A staff member at the dump alerted local police about the theft, which occurred between 3.30pm on March 10 and 7.30am on March 11.
Yarriambiack Shire Council CEO Tammy Smith said it’s abhorrent that the primary source for powering the site was stolen.
“Solar panels are the only source of power for running our system in the landfill pit office, as we don’t have any electricity there,” she said.
"There used to be three panels, but now we are left with only two, because someone trespassed and stole one of the 40 watt panels.
"We encourage the community to let the police know if they have any information."
