TV hosts and crew from Channel Nine’s Postcards were in Dimboola and other parts of the Wimmera over the weekend filming for an episode promoting some of the region’s best tourism attractions.

Host Kris Smith explored some of the region’s best attractions, food, and drink while meeting many iconic characters along the way.

Hindmarsh Shire Council chief executive Monica Revell was thrilled with the opportunity for Dimboola to get such exposure.

“It was exciting to host Postcards at Riverside Holiday Park Dimboola last week; our team did an amazing job making the park sparkle for the filming,” she said.

“As one of Victoria’s most popular travel and lifestyle programs, Postcards reaches a significant audience each week, drawing around 177,000 viewers on average every Sunday.”

The multi-day visit was part of Grampians Wimmera Mallee Tourism’s FEELS LIKE campaign.

“The work we’re doing to raise the profile of the Grampians Wimmera Mallee is about real, long-term outcomes for our communities and operators,” chief executive Marc Sleeman said.

“The national recognition this region has been receiving tells us the work is landing – and Postcards gives us another opportunity to put this extraordinary part of Victoria in front of people who haven’t discovered it yet.”

The visit also included the Horsham Golf Club, Laharum’s Rosehaven Farms and Norton Estate.

GWMT partnerships manager Ian Gumela said the show was “a great way to feature those businesses and our partners” and considered having an entire episode as “a great investment” to publicise the region.

“It goes out to the whole Channel Nine audience, plus it sits on the catch-up (TV), (and) they rerun seasons during the day,” he said.

“They (filmed) some overlay of the town as well in the morning, which they'll feature.

“Dimboola’s really a shining light in the Wimmera Mallee of what can happen when a town rallies together.”

The fun continued with a trip to Pink Lake and a luncheon at the Holiday Park, with the filming wrapping up at the Woods Heritage Museum in Rupanyup.

Neil Davenport of Dimboola’s Big Bertha said the luncheon was a great way to highlight the Wimmera’s high-quality produce and supplies.

“There was a spread of locally made food, including pork and vegetarian dumplings with Davidson's Plum, pepperberry, and ginger,” he said.

“He also sampled a lemon myrtle chickpea cake with strawberry guava gel.

“It was all about showcasing the produce, sustainably grown in the region.”

While Mr Smith was enjoying the best of the Wimmera, his co-host, Livinia Nixon, travelled through the Southern and Central Grampians, visiting several locations, including Hamilton, Dunkeld, Pomonal, Great Western and Ararat.

“This episode is another powerful channel in what has been a sustained and deliberate effort to tell the story of this region to new audiences,” GWMT marketing manager Georgia Bennett said.

“A huge thank you to all of the operators and local shires who opened their doors for the crew this week.

“They’re the reason this region is worth watching.”

Ms Revell said the episode validated the overall tourism strategy.

“This opportunity reflects one of the many benefits of being a member of Grampians Wimmera Mallee Tourism, leveraging strong partnerships to secure valuable media exposure that promotes our region and supports our local visitor economy.

“Be sure to tune in at 5.30pm on Sunday 28 June to see our stunning landscapes and experiences featured on screen”.

The episode will also be replayed on 9Life the following week.
