Plenty bagged in Beulah fishing comp

A total of 50 fishers had a beautiful day, in which to capture a total of 68 fish, which were officially measured at the Beulah Wide Open Spaces fishing completion on Saturday morning.
Seniors
Thirty three keen senior anglers started their piscatorial challenge at 8:00 am at the Yarriambiack weir pool at Beulah on Saturday.
Water had been trickling water into the weir pool for two weeks, so the creek level was high.
Joe Chivell, took this into account when choosing his fishing location. Setting up his chair and rods, right next to the bubbling fresh water. He hooked and landed nine fish. A total length of 2.56 metres of fish found his bait. And won him the Crop Smart $400 cash prize.
Joint runners up with Brian Morris and George Inkster bags both measured 217cms.
George's bag consisted of five carp, all over 43cm. Where Brian (Butch) Morris’ bag, was made up of plenty of small Yella’s and a nice sized Redfin and some thumping big carp.
Mark Cowan landed a 45cm Carp, behind the footy oval goal posts near the Wallaby island.
Glen Hose caught good sized Redfin and a 35cm Yellow belly, fishing next to the pipe line. His total bag length of 162cm gained him outright third place.
Bill Whitford from Hopetoun landed a huge 46.5cm European Carp. George Inkster’s biggest measured 48cm. Jessie Jones also had a 48cm Carp, but was equal second, to the eventual winner, Zen Chivell’s 50cm, the largest of all the 21 carp measured.
The notable catches came from Will Naylor, Golden Perch of 36cm. Marco’s 34.5cm and Luke Edmonds 34cm. All great edible sized fish. Luke Clausen landed the longest Redfin at 31cm.
Juniors
A good number of 17 juniors also entered the Beulah creek fishing competition.
The longest bag was won by Freddie Warren. With five Yella’s and two Carp. With a total length of 185cm. Winning a Go-Pro camera courtesy of North West Ag.
After landing a 28cm Redfin, Tyson Garlic then dragged in four Yellow Belly for a total bag length of 149cm and second place.
In third place Archie Keam landed four Yella’s all of legal length, tallying 124cm.
The biggest Redfin caught by a junior was caught by Mac Thompson with 30.5cm, his first fish ever.
A ‘one trophy per angler’ rule was applied and the second longest Yella’ was caught by Olivia Moore, at 30.5cm. Although Sullivan Magee had already won a trophy for the longest Yellow Belly at 37.5cm. His carp at 51cm was the second longest.
Atlanta Jones won longest carp using worms for bait and with dad’s help, it measured 60cm
There was a $20 entry fee.
