Pirates draws season to a rousing close
Horsham Arts Council is already about to launch work on its next production, hot on the heels of its latest blockbuster show, Gilbert and Sullivan's The Pirates of Penzance.
The two-act comic opera delighted audiences at Horsham Town Hall from October 3-12.
Directed by Jess Wilson, with Nick Wilson as assistant director and Esther Fry as producer, the show helped raise funds for Canteen Australia, which aims to help young people aged 12 to 25 who have been impacted by cancer in some way.
Ms Wilson said she has been wanting to present the show for a while.
"It went brilliantly, I'm so proud," she said.
"I wanted to share something really different and the audience loved it."
Ms Wilson said the production was challenging for case members since it had operatic elements.
"It was important to keep the original music and modernise it to appeal to the current audience," she said.
The production also had a live orchestra for the first time since 2018.
"They did a phenomenal job," she said. "And they worked just as hard as the cast."
Their May 2025 production will be The Last 10 Years, a celebration of shows over the past decade to celebrate their 60th anniversary.
