The Warracknabeal Football Club recently received a phone call from the Bentleigh Red Cross shop advising that amongst their goods for sale was an engraved teapot that may be of interest to the people of Warracknabeal.
Would the town like the teapot returned to Warracknabeal was the question they asked.
Jane Stein took the call and mentioned to Graham Drage, a member of the Historical Society mentioning the offer of the teapot, there was a family connection Graham said, it would be good to see it returned.
His grandmother's sister, Emily Adele Hewitt married Thomas Janes who was a tailor in Scott Street. W.H Janes had a men's wear emporium beside where the Community Garden is situated, Thomas Janes was a tailor in the shop.
The teapot was returned to Warracknabeal thanks to Jane and Belinda Wethers, (Melissa Evans) sister who collected it from Melbourne and the Bentleigh Red Cross for their concideration.
The teapot is engraved-
"Presented to W.H JANES ESQ Sec"
"By the WARRACKNABEAL FOOTBALL CLUB 1908"
W. H Janes was President of the Warracknabeal Football Club in 1891 and 1902.
Secretary in 1903-1904, 1906-1912.
The Janes family moved from Warracknabeal to Malvern soon after.
