Pay rise for mayors and councillors
The region’s mayors and councillors have been given a 3.5 per cent pay increase, as public sector pay rises kick in across the state.
Horsham Rural City Council mayor Robyn Gulline now earns a base allowance of $109,114.
Horsham councillors each now receive $34,028, in line with their counterparts on category two councils.
Mayors in Yarriambiack, Hindmarsh and West Wimmera Shire, in the lowest of the four council categories, receive $84,498, while deputies are on $42,248 and councillors $27,291.
Extra payments include a remote area travel allowance equal to $47.50 per day for eligible mayors, deputy mayors and councillors, up to a maximum of $5937 per year.
The pay rises are set by the Victorian Independent Remuneration Tribunal.
In an earlier version of this story we mistakenly referred to Penny Flynn as deputy mayor of Horsham Rural City Council. Cr Flynn ceased to be deputy mayor in November 2023.
