Paw Say Paw's achievements in adult learning honoured with Ro Allen Award
Centre For Participation pre-accredited learner honoured.
Wimmera local Paw Say Paw has been honoured at the Victorian government's Learn Local Awards, receiving the Ro Allen Award for her achievements as a pre-accredited learner, developing important skills for study and life.
Paw Say Paw arrived in Australia in 2022, immigrating from a refugee camp in Thailand and wasted no time enrolling for a beginner's English class at the Centre For Participation.
There, she learnt to speak English by immersing herself in social environments where English was spoken.
Her curiosity and ambition led her to take a basic computer course and participate in a sewing class, igniting a newfound passion.
Then, Paw Say Paw enrolled in a micro-business course, which she combined with her passion for sewing to launch her own business making hats and bags.
The Centre For Participation, including chief executive Robbie Millar, attended the awards ceremony where Paw Say Paw's achievements were celebrated.
"Winning the Ro Allen Award is not only an honour for Paw Say Paw, but also a testament to the transformative power of community-based education and support," Mr Millar said in a statement.
To further her learning, Paw Say Paw has been awarded a scholarship to study individual support at Federation University.
"The Centre for Participation extends a huge congratulations to all the finalists and winners across Victoria," Mr Millar said.
"It is inspiring to see so many learners, educators, and supporters making a positive impact."
