Participants to take in scenery during the Arapiles Cycling Event
The event will take depart from Natimuk on Saturday, October 5.
The 2024 Arapiles Cycling Event is happening on Saturday, October 5.
This community bike ride is based in Natimuk. Four circuits are on offer, and all take riders to and/or around Mount Arapiles.
The event is not a race.
Participants in the 100, 75 and 50-kilometre routes follow a marked-out course on sealed roads, avoiding major highways and taking in the sights of our scenic Wimmera 'backyard'.
Riders on the 20-kilometre route use the Arapiles Big Sky Bike Trail.
A small team of volunteers bring the ride together.
There are marshals on the course to guide the cyclists and at the rest stops along the way to offer a break and refreshments.
A St. John Ambulance team will be present on the day, and the organisers appreciate the support of Parks Victoria, Regional Roads Victoria, Victoria Police, and the Horsham Rural City Council.
The event is sanctioned by AusCycling.
So far, riders from around Victoria have registered for the ACE Ride, including Ballarat, Stawell, Nhill, Wodonga, Barwon Heads, Ballarat, and a team from Port Fairy.
One rideris even coming from Canberra to participate.
Retired couple Tony and Linda Crapper are looking forward to the weekend as they travel from North Balwyn in Melbourne.
Tony is riding the 75-kilometre circuit and Linda is riding her pedal-assisted E-Bike along the 20 Km route.
The popularity of E-Bikes has created a new group of cyclists of all ages who are keen to get out and about and take on new challenges.
The Arapiles Cycling Event supports Wimmera Against Cancer in Kids.
Cyclists riding the 100-kilometre route will leave Natimuk at 8am, 75 and 50-kilometre riders will pedal off at 9 and the 20-kilometre group will leave at 10.
All riders will back in Natimuk around lunch time.

Online entries close at 10pm on Thursday, October 3, and cash entries are taken on Saturday morning in Natimuk.
