Panthers meet rested Tigers
Rupanyup’s senior football club will look to continue their momentum into round six of the Horsham District Football Netball League as they travel to Pimpinio to take on the Tigers.
The Panthers held their nerve to defeat Taylors Lake 84-70 in a contested battle in round five and now meet a refreshed Pimpinio side coming off a bye.
Panthers coach Cam Weston is hopeful of his team’s chances, but has identified Pimpinio ruckman Matt Healy as a key player the side will have to nullify on Saturday.
“We’ve got belief heading into Saturday, and we will carry the momentum from last week into it,” he said.
“We got a couple of injuries from last round, but the reserves had a strong win, so there’s pressure on spots, which is great.
“I know big Matt Healy in the ruck is quite good, and they have some good onballers as well, so we’ll have to put work into them.”
Under injury clouds for Rupanyup are Daniel Schaper and Jed Dickerson.
Wanting to go into their round seven bye with a 3-3 record, the Panthers coach hopes the side can build on their promising signs from the early season.
“We want to try and go into the bye three and three, Weston said.
“We probably missed a couple of opportunities early in the year; we didn’t play well against Natimuk, which was disappointing, and it could have gone either way against Laharum, but it was a promising game.”
