Panthers dominant
The Rup-Minyip Panthers were the standout team on day one of round 12 of the Horsham Cricket Association B grade competition on Saturday, February 7, claiming first innings points against West Wimmera.
Playing at Davis Park, the Panthers’ decision to bowl against the home side paid dividends as they dismissed the Warriors for 53.
Luke Smith was the only West Wimmera player to reach double figures, top scoring with 25.
Jake McKenzie led the way for the Panthers with figures of 4/12, while Scott McCurdy had 2/4 from six overs.
Opening batsmen Ryder Hudson (40) and Hugh Weidemann (37) passed the Warriors’ first innings total as the visitors finished day one at 6/142.
Liam Preston finished the day with 3/41 with the ball, while Glen Treverton was 2/27.
At Coughlin Park, the top-of-the table clash between the Horsham Saints and Swifts-Great Western remains in the balance after day one.
After being sent in to bat, Mark Crafter (25) got the Saints off to a solid start, before the bowling combination of Emmanuel Kuriayan Joseph and Marc Brilliant tore through the home side, leaving them at 9/75.
A late-innings unbeaten knock of 57 from just 49 balls from Brock Hamerston helped the Saints to 121.
Kuriayan Joseph finished with 6/32, while Brilliant had 3/19 from his 11 overs.
Three early wickets from Mark Crafter then had SGW in immediate trouble at 3/3, before Craig Marrow (28 not out) and Leon Moloney (23 not out) settled the innings to leave the visitors 3/61 at stumps.
At Dimboola Road Oval, the Tigers elected to bowl against Brim KSH, who were bowled out for 205 in the last over of the day.
Mathew Crisp led the Eagles with a superb knock of 104, while Barry Schilling had 26 and Trent Allen scored 22.
Amrit BK was the pick of the Tigers’ bowlers with 5/31, while Tom Iredell-Burke had 3/38.
At Noradjuha Recreation Reserve, the Bullants elected to bat against Donald Jeffcott and totalled 223 before being bowled out in the 60th over.
Skipper John Heard led the home side with 75 runs, with solid contributions from Riley Lane (26) and Joshua Price (25).
For the visitors, Bronte Campbell had figures of 4/51, while Niluka Nanayakkara had 3/29.
With just two overs to face at the end of the day, Riley Lane struck for the Bullants, leaving Donald Jeffcott 1/15 at stumps.
At Dudley Cornell Park, the Colts are in a strong position ahead of day two against St Mary’s.
The visitors elected to bat and despite a strong innings of 64 from Matt Hartnett, St Mary’s were dismissed for 115.
Drew Carmody (3/24) and Ross Frew (3/25) each took three wickets fro the Colts, while Alex Baker (2/15) and Beau Purchase (2/29) both produced two.
In response, openers Drew Carmody (48 not out) and Nathan Keel (37 not out) got the Colts to 0/95 at stumps, 20 runs behind St Mary’s total.
