Two Dimboola residents will next appear in Melbourne Supreme Court on August 10 after being charged with the murder of John Lindsay Hunter, 71, at Dimboola between January 20 and 23.
Thomas Clarke, 54, and Jodie Rebecca Hill, 42, both pleaded not guilty to one count of murder during a committal hearing in Horsham Magistrate's Court on Wednesday when they appeared separately via video link before Magistrate Hugh Radford.
Ms Hill was first to appear before the Magistrate, answering "not guilty" to the charge of murder. Her only other response during the brief interview was to answer "yes" when asked by Magistrate Radford whether she understood cautions given.
Later Mr Clarke appeared separately from Metropolitan Remand Centre, also pleading not guilty during his brief interview and answering that he understood the cautions given.
He was charged with one count of murder following the discovery of Mr Hunter's body at a house in Victoria Street, Dimboola on January 23.
News of the discovery of the body of an elderly man in a house just one block from the town's police station and subsequent police presence, including a police helicopter, caused disquiet among town residents.
At the time police called for anyone with information about the incident to phone Crime Stoppers or submit a confidential report to the Dimboola Police Station.
