Outback spirit to shine in Jeparit Show
The Jeparit Agriculture and Pastoral Society is gearing up for another action-packed Annual Jeparit Show this Sunday, October 19, promising a full day of family fun, community spirit, and a touch of outback flair.
Jeparit A & P Society president Bec Schultz said she’s feeling proud and excited about bringing the show together again this year at the town's showgrounds.
“It’s always a huge effort, but seeing the community come alive each year makes it all worth it,” she said.
The support from our volunteers, sponsors, and exhibitors has been incredible, and it’s a real team effort.”
This year’s event is set to be one of the biggest yet, with The Outback Stockman Show headlining the entertainment, performing three live shows throughout the day.
The stockman show will feature performing horses, dogs, ducks, sheep, a goat, a bull, whipcracking, lots of laughs and plenty of tunes.
“This year’s show will have a real Outback flavour,” she said.
“We’re thrilled to welcome Lachie Cossar, the Outback Stockman, as our headline act.
“It’s something truly special that the whole family will love.”
She said the committee is expecting a great turnout.
“We’re gearing up for one of our biggest shows yet,” she said.
“With the program we’ve got lined up, we’re confident we’ll see a fantastic turnout and plenty of happy faces through the gates.”
Alongside the Stockman spectacle, visitors can look forward to plenty of local favourites.
“This year’s show continues our tradition of providing entertainment for all ages,” she said.
“Being a true country show, it wouldn’t be complete without our much-loved Animal Nursery and Fair Dinkum Fauna.
“They’ll be running interactive displays throughout the day and putting on a special wildlife show at 1pm - sure to be a crowd favourite, especially with the kids.
“Along with Professor Wallis’ Puppet Show, it really captures the spirit of country life and community fun.”
As always, the Horse Section will be a crowd magnet.
“The horse section is always a major highlight,” she said.
“This year, we’re thrilled to have five rings in action with some fantastic prizes on offer.
“The horses really bring a wonderful atmosphere to the showgrounds, as there’s nothing quite like the sight and sound of them in full swing.”
Adding a literary touch to the day, Ms Schultz said one of this year’s special guests will be author Jodi Toering.
“Jodi’s an inspiring storyteller with a deep connection to rural life,” she said.
“We’re excited for patrons to meet her, hear her stories, and share in her love of the bush.
“It’s something a little different for visitors to enjoy alongside all the traditional show favourites such as our market stalls and car club display.”
Local participation remains strong, with schools, clubs, and groups joining in once again.
“We’ve had fantastic involvement from local and regional sponsors, along with plenty of community groups lending a hand,” she said.
“The local tennis club will be up bright and early, cooking a BBQ breakfast from 8am, while the Museum, Garden, and Craft Clubs will have wonderful displays and stalls for everyone to enjoy.
“Our primary school students will also be showcasing their artwork and entering exhibits in the pavilion - it’s always great to see the next generation getting involved in the show spirit.”
For Ms Schultz, the annual event is about far more than entertainment.
“The Jeparit Show is much more than just an event, it’s a celebration of our community,” she said.
“It brings together families, friends, and visitors from across the district to share in the pride of our town and the spirit of the country.
“For many, it’s a highlight of the year, a chance to catch up, showcase local talent, and support one another.
“The show reflects everything that makes Jeparit and our surrounding communities special: connection, resilience, and good old-fashioned country fun.”
The show is on from 7am to 9.30pm at the Sir Robert Menzies Reserve.
