Open day brings community together
Hopetoun and District Neighbourhood House welcomed locals through its doors on Thursday May 14 for a busy open day held as part of Neighbourhood House Week.
The event was held at the house at 75 Lascelles Street from 10am to 2pm, giving community members the chance to connect with local groups, learn more about available services, and enjoy a relaxed day of conversation, food and information sharing.
The Open Day attracted a strong turnout, with the library service and the free sausage sizzle lunch provided by the Men’s Shed proving especially popular throughout the day.
A number of community groups and organisations attended, including the Men’s Shed, Crochet Group, Shire Library services, Axis Employment, Country Women’s Association, Red Cross Hopetoun and Uniting.
The CWA ladies hosted a cooking stall, selling a range of homemade items and handing out flyers to attendees.
Red Cross volunteers also spoke with visitors and provided information and flyers to those attending the Open Day.
HDNH manager Erin Paech said the day was a great success and a strong example of the role the neighbourhood house plays in the community.
“Great turnout for today’s HDNH open day- celebrating neighbourhood house week,” she said.
“We had free sausages for lunch, and locals came down for them and a treat with goodies made by the Red Cross and CWA.
“Few new sign-ups for them.”
Mrs Paech said people can visit the house if they have any questions.
“HDNH is a place to connect to all groups,” she said.
“If you have a question, come in and ask, and if we don’t know, we will try our best to find it out for you.”
The event highlighted the neighbourhood house’s role as a community hub, where residents can meet local organisations, ask questions, access information and find out what support is available in Hopetoun and the surrounding areas.
Organisers said the day was also an opportunity to celebrate the work of local volunteers and community groups who continue to support residents through regular programs, services and activities.
Hopetoun and District Neighbourhood House thanked all community groups who exhibited on the day, as well as the community members who attended and helped make the Open Day a success.
