Op shop fundraisers donate bumper gift
Having already made several donations since Covid, Wimmera Base Hospital Ladies Auxiliary has now presented its biggest single contribution in the form of a $74,000 cheque to Grampians Health Horsham.
The cheque has funded two important items, the first of which has arrived to great celebration - and a host of happy feet.
The Arapiles gymnasium at the Horsham campus took delivery of a brand-new treadmill with
all the programs needed for the various exercise groups who will use it.
Grampians Health cardiac rehabilitation nurse Jo Carroll said the treadmill was put to immediate use.
“It’s used by clients every day of the week,” Ms Carroll said.
“The clients are from various exercise groups including cardiac rehab, pulmonary rehab, osteo arthritis, gait and balance, heart failure group and other exercise groups involved with exercise physiologists and various allied health professionals.
“It’s fantastic to get a new one, because the last one was beyond repair.
"We greatly appreciate the support of the ladies' auxiliary and we are very thankful for their hard work.”
WBH Ladies Auxiliary president Denise Queale said her committee was delighted to be able to buy the treadmill.
“We actually learned from one of our committee members that the previous treadmill was broken down so we jumped at the opportunity to fund a new one,” Ms Queale said.
“We've also donated a new ultrasound to Yandilla, and the two items total $74,000 - our biggest single cheque presentation yet.
“The reason we're able to fund such big-ticket items is mainly thanks to our hardworking ladies at the opportunity shop in Darlot Street.
"They enjoy volunteering there but they also love to see the end result of their work, and this is another example.”
Grampians Health regional director of hospitals - west Carolyn Robertson thanked the WBH Ladies Auxiliary members for their continued support of the health service.
"We're immensely grateful to WBH Ladies Auxiliary for all the efforts and contribution to our
hospital," Ms Robertson said.
"Their most recent contribution will help us to support our community to live healthy and happy lives."
