Rod 'Rocket' Hogan has been named the inaugural coach of the Laharum Football and Netball Club's senior women's side.

The experienced Wimmera football coach has been away from the sidelines for a few years but said the club's 'one club focus' - Laharum's introduction of its new women's program - drew him to it.

"I'm really excited of the approach that the club's taking, and that is to involve the women's team as a full part of their club," he said.

"They'll train Tuesdays and Thursdays, same as the senior men, junior footballers, netballers, the whole lot. At the end of the season, they'll have their vote count and presentation day with the senior men and the netballers.

The opportunity to help build something from the ground up was also a card draw card that enticed him to the shadow of the Grampians.

"The key thing [here] is we're building something from the ground up," Mr Hogan said.

"I'm really looking forward to starting back in coaching again and trying to develop players and see where we can go from there."

With a rough idea of the playing group for the 2025 Western Victoria Female Football League, Mr Hogan acknowledges that many of them will have limited experience.

"If anything, it's more about developing the team's game sense," he said.

"The key thing here is to build those experiences and allow the players to gain a better understanding of the game and how things can work."
