A Herald reader recently spotted a section of road between Warracknabeal and Kellalac that he believes typifies the waste spent on roads in the region.
Sure, we had a really wet year last year, which always affects roads with surface and causes foundation damage, but he thought it odd the road crews excavated the road sections and then did a sealed patch over the road.
He believes the irony of this is that it would not have taken any longer to properly repair the road with the time taken and the materials used for a temporary patch.
This section of road now has 40 kilometres per hour speed restrictions for quite some distance and has a significant drop down into the temporary patches.
The same applies to a large raised lump in the road just south of Brim.
These raised nodules on a number of roads in the area should be relatively easy to remove, but the road crew just sealed over it.
The lump in the road was large enough to hit the bottom of a small car and, judging by the scrapes and marks on it, this is exactly what has happened.
This has no doubt damaged the cars that hit it, and has the potential to cause fires if sparks hit the long dry grass beside the road.
Maybe the roads teams are waiting for the bumps to be knocked off by cars before they apply another patch to them.
