One of the organisers, Lucy Marshman, said the event drew strong community support, with 109 tickets sold and many local people and businesses contributing donations and prizes.

“We sold 109 tickets, so it was a really good turnout,” she said.

“The day went really well. We had lots of people donate prizes and contribute.”

The event started at 2 pm and ran during the football, with guests enjoying an afternoon tea-style gathering.

Organisers provided nibbles, slices, platter boxes and sandwiches, with food supplied by local businesses including Lowell’s coffee van and Amy Lou’s.

About six volunteers from the Nhill Football Club ladies’ social committee helped organise and run the day.

A key highlight was a talk from local woman Suzy Smith, who shared her personal experience with breast cancer.

“Suzy Smith spoke about her experience with breast cancer and shared her story,” Lucy said.

“She gave some key points about things to look out for, breast checks and genetic testing.

“It was really inspiring, and I think everyone took a lot away from that.”

The day also included raffles, musical bingo and outdoor games. Three raffle prizes were on offer, while the musical bingo winner received a meat tray from Warrack Butchers.

Lucy said the event attracted people not only from Nhill, but also from surrounding towns including Dimboola, Jeparit and Rainbow.

She said the support from the wider community helped make the fundraiser a success.

“I would like to thank my team. I couldn’t have done the day without them,” Lucy said.

“They were so great, and I would also like to thank everybody for coming and contributing to a great day and a great cause.

“I couldn’t be happier with how the event was.”
