Nhill bring energy to defeat Dimboola
Nhill are now sitting in fifth position on the ladder after a convincing win against Dimboola on Saturday.
In a game where Nhill co-coach Jake McQueen said his side brought energy from the start, the final margin was 148 points, Dimboola 1.1 (7) to Nhill 23.17 (155).
The home side wasted no time in the first quarter, piling on 5.3 to Dimboola's 0.1 early on.
Dimboola weren't able to find the sticks at all in quarter two, while Nhill added another 7.5 to their tally.
The deficit going into the final term was 118 points, with Dimboola yet to add a major to their score.
Thankfully, a goal was scored by Roo Simon Hobbs in the last quarter, giving them their first major for the match, while the Tigers added another 5.6 to their eventual tally.
Nhill's goal scorers included Jake McQueen (seven) and Petros Politis (five).
Best on ground for the losing side included coach Andrew Moore, along with Connor O’Dwyer and Riley McLaughlin, while for the winners, Lachlan Gill, Petros Politis and Tom Wheaton led the way.
McQueen said the match was pleasing, with the team bringing the energy from the start.
"And, more importantly, we sustained it for four quarters, which is something we’ve been focusing on," the co-coach said.
"Probably the most pleasing part was our pressure and defence as a team.
"I thought we defended really hard behind the ball and then moved the ball with good speed and overlap once we won it back.
"Our connection between contest, defence and offence was really strong."
With nearly half the side finding the big sticks on Saturday, McQueen said the spread of goal kickers was definitely pleasing too.
He added that the side had spoken a lot about not relying on one or two players.
"We want to become a harder side to defend because we’ve got multiple threats," McQueen said.
"I think that came naturally off the back of good ball movement and unselfishness."
Along with Wheaton, who McQueen said was terrific through the middle with his rate of work and drive around the stoppage, there were a couple of other players acknowledged by the co-coach.
"I thought Darcy Honeyman was outstanding down back all day with his defending and composure," McQueen said.
"Drew Schneider was really dangerous up forward and hit the scoreboard."
