Firstly we wish to acknowledge the passing of our wonderful volunteer Margaret Menzel.
Up until her recent illness, Margaret was actively working with Greg Bolwell on the financial business of our service.
Margaret's knowledge, experience and generosity have been greatly appreciated.
She is very sadly missed.
The closure of the 14 bed residential side of Allambi is now complete, with all residents being relocated to either independent living or into other residential care facilities in Dimboola and other parts of the Wimmera.
This has been a very upsetting time for the residents, their families, and the staff.
All staff have found alternative employment and we wish them all well.
It is important that the community of Dimboola understand that we still have 12 independent living units surrounding the hostel - this will not change.
Nearly all of the units have tenants and we will continue to provide this service.
The Management Committee of Allambi that represents the Dimboola community continues to work tirelessly on the empty hostel and managing the units.
We are hoping to raise much-needed funds to undertake renovations to the units that were built many years ago.
This is where we will continue to rely on the generosity of each one of you in the community to work with us.
It is important that it is understood that all Management Committee members are volunteers and commit many hours to the management of the service.
For the past two years we have been contracted by the Hindmarsh Shire Council to provide Meals on Wheels, however at the end of June the shire is not renewing their contract, therefore we will cease this activity.
We do understand that this is another blow to our community as we received glowing positive reviews of our service.
We all hope that a new provider will be engaged as soon as possible.
We hope this clarifies any questions or concerns you may have about Allambi, however if you wish to, please contact me, Ann Falkingham President of the Management Committee on 0439 078 238.
