New Years Resolution: birthday planning, limiting unnecessary projects
Yolande Grosser is wondering where her sewing machine is hiding.
I am absolutely certain that when speaking on the telephone with my sister last night, I explicitly stated my intention to limit my unnecessary projects in 2025.
I am equally as certain that today, less than 12 hours after that conversation, there are three new paper patterns for 1920's style dresses in my handbag. Hmmm.
There does seem to be a little bit of a disconnect here.
It's true that Tammy laughed out loud when I said I fully intended to take on less in the new year, but she also said that she was proud of me for thinking I could, and for going to the extreme of believing it so much, that I shared my thoughts.
Look, anyway, isn't it common knowledge these days that buying creative materials and completing creative projects are two quite separate hobbies?
There's no guarantee I'll actually be making my flapper dress any time soon.
It's just that Tam is turning 50 in April and she's organising a costume party to celebrate - in the theme of The Great Gatsby.
I have already begun planning for an 80th in August.
It's not for a person though, it's for an organisation, and I started my involvement with that celebration last year, so I'm off the hook, surely.
Korus Connect will celebrate the stellar achievement of delivering Christian education and Chaplaincy services in schools for 80 years.
This milestone seemed well worth putting on my thinking cap for, so I thought up a Sunday Afternoon Tea at the end of August.
Plenty of time to plan for winter festivities. I must remember to ask for help with that one, but the thing is, I get most satisfaction from doing stuff on my own.
I did do a lot of crazy things last year, but the one I know I don't have to repeat is the Kew Student Residence road trip stopover.
Providing a two-course meal for 50 young adults was a blast, but the planning and preparation were epic.
My problem is that I get easily bored.
I think I need some downtime, and I definitely do, but I find boredom incredibly painful, so I also need a creative project on the go at all times.
Enough of this, where's my sewing machine?
