New-look Thunder hit the court

Southern Mallee Thunder had hitouts across numerous grades of netball on Saturday, in preparation for the 2026 season.

Their 13s, 15s, 17s, C Res, C, B and A Grade sides played in Beulah against Birchip.

A Grade coach Lachie Exell said with the temperature climbing past 30 degrees, everyone had to deal with conditions that were hot and sweaty.

Despite scores not being kept, Exell said all games were competitive, and having a few of their A Graders out meant some other players had the opportunity to step up.

"It's a completely new team, so the objective of Saturday was just connecting with new teammates and getting through matches in the heat," he reflected.

The Thunder will kick off their campaign for 2026 against Nhill at Davis Park on Saturday, April 11.
