Warracknabeal Secondary College (WSC) students and teachers, past and present, have bid farewell to the 1927 campus on Tregear Street with sadness, but look forward to greeting their new premises at the Warracknabeal Education Precinct with excitement.
Warracknabeal Primary School (WPS) and Warracknabeal Special Development School (SDS) relocated to their new buildings at the beginning of the year, leaving WSC busy packing up to move these holidays.
WSC principal Casey Phelan said there is tremendous excitement surrounding the establishment of the Education Precinct, and that it is a historical moment for the schools and community.
“There is some great excitement and some trepidation as we prepare for the move,” she said.
“Students, staff and school council have been on tours and have been very favourable in their responses to the new facilities.
“With the three schools on one site, transition across sectors will be easier for students as we will be able to track wellbeing and learning more closely than ever before.
“It is an opportunity to share resources, develop projects together, and to provide a wider range of learning options for all students.”
Ms Phelan also said that although they are leaving behind established and well-maintained grounds, the buildings at the current site were becoming a challenge to keep maintained to a high standard.
“On the Precinct there are seven new or refurbished buildings, in addition to the Administration and Science/Senior buildings that were constructed in Stage 1 of the development,” she said.
