New century, new machinery

The Anzac Park Trustees have welcomed new equipment dedicated to keeping the grounds looking ship shape in time for this weekend’s Centenary game against the Dimboola Roos.
It was decided over the past two years that there were several items of machinery which needed updating and, thanks to the generous sponsorship of Emmetts, the Trustees, in their 101st year of service of maintaining the Anzac Memorial Park, have purchased three new items.
A new John Deere E140 ride-on mower, a John Deere 3038e turf mower for the Oval, and a John Deere utility tractor/front-end loader will be replacing the Massey Ferguson tractor and gang mower which possibly go back to the 1960's and have certainly put in their time on the job.
They are being retired now for safety, time and economic reasons, in a unanimous decision by the Trustees.
Curator Nigel Zanker, along with volunteers Phillip Gunn, Danny Germano, Terry Smith and Gary McLean, are just a few of the team who help to maintain the Park and provide the manpower needed to operate the machinery - and the Trustees thank them.
Anzac Memorial Park held their tri-annual meeting recently and the Trustees were nominated and elected to serve as office bearers for the next three years - Peter Clayton will be serving as Chair, Alan McLean as Secretary and Matthew Richardson as Treasurer.
They are joined by other trustees: Greg Pearson, Phillip Gunn, Michael Evans, Ian Penny, Graham Clayton and Graeme Massey.
At the meeting, Anthony Jess chose not to stand as a nominee for the next three years, and was replaced by Graeme Massey.
Anthony said he will not be lost to the Park and will join the volunteers in looking after the gardens and rubbish bins, and performing general maintenance.
The Trustees thank Anthony for his time served with them and look forward to his continued involvement in the Park.
Recent work completed at Anzac Memorial Park includes a complete reseeding of the Oval which has the surface looking magnificent.
As most of the community knows, over the past 18 months, there has been a Masterplan in the works and it has now been completed.
The Masterplan has been drawn up for the future benefit of the park, and will take into account the grants being provided in the future.

The Park Trustees were planning to hold a function last year for the 100 years celebration, but continued to be thwarted by Covid.
It is great to see that the Eagles Football and Netball Club are celebrating their 100th year this week at the local home of football.
It is also noted that the Warracknabeal Laundry building is a monument to the Warracknabeal Lions and Eagles Football Club - when Mr Disciati owned and operated his photography business from there, the property’s second floor was painted maroon and gold in the colours of the team.
