The Jeparit-Rainbow netball teams sadly did not share the success of their football counterparts, but did well in Round 1, battling hard against Edenhope-Apsley in truly terrible weather.

A Grade

The A Grade team went in expecting an uphill battle, coming up against the reigning premiers who had been able to keep most of the side from the prior year, along with some new additions of equal quality.

They got off to a slow start but as the game went on, JR started to find their way and played some good netball to get the scoreboard ticking over.

Edenhope were very tall and agile, and at times it was hard to find a way around them, but the JR girls kept persisting and were able to produce some good passages of play.

It was very pleasing, the way the girls never gave up and ran the game out with a great attitude.

There were plenty of positives to come out of the game and the girls look forward to another challenge next week against the 2022 minor premiers: Kalkee.

It was a cold, wet start to the game, but the girls were in high spirits, ready for their first game of the season.

The girls worked well as a team to secure the first goal of the game early on, with defenders working hard in the first half of the game to intercept and the shooters rotating well in the ring.

Another few position changes at half-time saw the girls come out firing despite the continuous rain.

Great defence and hands over the ball; Edehope’s defence was tight, making it a little difficult to get the ball into the ring, but the girls were persistent and worked well together.

They kept up great spirits throughout the game and played very well as a team - great first game girls!

Awards: Presh voucher: Lilly Williams, $10 Ian’s IGA voucher: Emily Schultz

Final Score: Edenhope-Apsley: 40, Jeparit-Rainbow: 18.

The girls appeared to be very pleased to be back playing netball again.

They began the game very tentatively and it took them a while to find their feet. but as more time went by, they became more comfortable with each other and some good connections began to play out.

They were able to score some good goals but they did find it hard to find a way through against the much taller and experienced side.

Awards: Marra Ag Drink Bottle: Addison Fisher for a very consistent four quarters, Sweat Towel by Petsch: Lydia Paech who worked her way into the game nicely finding some good ball.

Final Score: Edenhope-Apsley: 21, Jeparit-Rainbow: 5.
