Mural returns home

The former Warracknabeal Arts Council’s textile triptych wall mural "Changing Vistas" has been returned to the Town Hall Supper Room where it began its life, accompanied by a plaque and brochure.
The mural was a Community Arts Project in 1988-1989 as part of Australia’s Bi-Centennial project.
Many members of the local community were involved in the preparation of the mural, which reflects an aerial shot of the Yarriambiack Creek and the region’s surrounding landscape.
The lower border also captures the history of the area through many patchwork designs using a range of fabrics and fibres.
The mural featured in Bourke Street, Melbourne’s Bush Week many years ago and drew very favourable comments.
After leaving the Town Hall, the mural was displayed in the Yarriambiack Shire Office's function room for many years and then, as a temporary measure, was shifted to a wall at the Creekside Hotel's Library.
The Town Hall Supper Room has been restored to its former state and, with the new kitchen, is now a comfortable venue for meetings and small conferences.
The large theatre screen in the main auditorium can now be lowered very easily, and the Town Hall Committee has its own wide-angle projector suitable for screenings, so is ready to be used by local groups who want to run a social or fund-raising film night.
Following the very successful Biodiversity Conference recently held at the Town Hall, the next major event will be the Seniors' Concert in October.
