Mudlarks back on the winners list
Lubeck Murtoa won their second match of the season, ending Laharum's unbeaten winning streak, winning by six wickets at Murtoa Recreation Reserve on Saturday. In other matches, the Homers, Bullants and Warriors all tasted victory.
The Mudlarks won the toss and sent Laharum in, and the Demons got off to a great start through Brodie Foster and Sean Wouters, who put on a 39-run opening stand.
Tom Eade dismissed Wouters for 13, and then Laharum lost four more wickets for eight runs to fall to 5/47.
Eade was on fire, picking up five, finishing with 5/22 (6.3) with one maiden. Brodie Foster was Laharum's top scorer with 26 as they were bowled out for 116 in the 45th over.
With a small total to defend, if any team could defend it, it would be the Demons, and they got off to a hot start through Jackson Hoffmann, Josh Mahoney and Jim McInnes, who bowled exceptionally well to have the Mudlarks 4/39.
Blake Downer, 67* (78), and Cameron Newell, 14* (52), then chased down the total in the 40th over, finishing at 4/118.
McInnes was the pick of the bowlers for Laharum, finishing with 2/16 (7) and three maidens.
Mudlark's captain, Joshua Hedt, said the team played well.
"It's a great feeling to get the win today. Everyone played well, and I was happy with that," Hedt said.
"Tom Eade played well, and Blake Downer was excellent with the bat, but everyone contributed."
It was his second A-grade match for Eade, and he was ecstatic with the win.
"It was great to win, especially after last week," Eade said.
"A-grade is good fun; it's good cricket, and you play against good opposition.
"Getting the five, I was pretty lucky, I thought, but first in senior cricket was a good feeling."
Warriors make statement
Labelled as the match of the round, the West Wimmera Warriors leave round five with bragging rights, defeating BrimKSH by 72 runs at Davis Park.
After winning the toss and batting, the Warriors made steady progress. Brad Alexander was the star, scoring 83 (101). Jeremy Weeks, 31 (68), and Brett Jensz, unbeaten on 28, were the rocks for the Warriors, as they made 5/187 off their 45 overs.
Issac McPherson, 2/37 (9) and Tim Bell, 2/44 (9), were the wicket-takers for the Eagles.
With a reasonable target to chase down, the Eagles' run chase started poorly, with Leigh Dovaston and Sandon Schultz falling early, putting the Eagles at 2/28.
Isaac McPherson came to the crease and did well occupying it, and Tim Bell, 14, and Dale Stephan, 19, were anchors for McPherson, who made 41. However, the Warriors' bowling was too good, bowling the Eagles out for 115 in the 42nd over.
Xavier Bone continued his terrific season with the ball, with figures of 4/12 (9), which featured five maidens.
Mills and Gamage power Homers to 164 in their win over the Tigers
At Sunnyside Recreation Reserve, the Homers were sent into bat by the Tigers and fell to 4/38.
Patrick Mills and Chaminda Gamage came to the crease and put on a partnership of 89 runs before Angus Adams bowled Gamage for 43 (50).
Mills fell for 71 (88) not long after, and Gibson Perry scored 20 with two sixes that helped guide the Homers to 10/164 at the end of the 43rd over.
Angus Adams took 3/34 (9), continuing his terrific season with the ball.
In reply, Baxter Perry, with three wickets, and his brother Gibson, with two, bowled brilliantly, leaving the Tigers at 5/31.
Angus Adams again was the star for the Tigers, proving he is the best player in the competition. He scored 69 (100). The Tigers' lower order tried to stick around with Adams, but ultimately, they were bowled out for 132 in the 40th over.
Baxter Perry and Luke Miller picked up three wickets apiece, finishing with 3/23 (9) and 3/23 (7), respectively.
Combe leads Bullants power to victory
An all-round performance from Matt Combe has led the Bullants to a comfortable 107-run win over the Horsham Saints at Horsham City Oval.
After winning the toss and bowling, the Saints made early inroads with Pradesh Venu Kudililparambil dismissing Tony Caccaviello for seven. Jono Carroll then bowled Troy Dumesny for 22 and had Justtin Combe caught for seven and the Bullants were 3/67.
Matthew Combe anchored the innings, and with help from Jack Combe, Jordan McDonald and Tim Crick, they made 7/183 off their 45 overs, with Combe finishing on 60.
In reply, Combe took three quick wickets to have the Saints 3/9, and when Jordan McDonald bowled Nathan Avins, they were 4/14 with a long road to travel.
Jack Combe, 3/20 (5), got in on the action as the Saints were bowled out for 76 in the 27th over. Matthew Combe finished with 3/9 (6).
Alan Dube, 17 and Zachary Hamerston, with an unbeaten 17, were the standouts with the bat for the Saints.
