Motorists feeling the fuel pinch
Fuel prices are high and drivers locally are feeling the pinch.
The majority of Victorians are now spending upwards of $60 a week on fuel, compared to an average weekly fuel spend of $48.50 in 2022.
Wimmera motorist Rani Rosy Sharma said she and her husband put about $60 a week of fuel in their car for his work commute.
"We do keep a low maintenance car, and it takes about $120 a fortnight to fill it up fully," Mrs Sharma said.
"$60 a week for fuel is still expensive and just for one person."
According to data gathered by Savvy, if fuel prices remain high, 43 per cent of Victorians will change their behaviour with driving or drive less.
Mrs Sharma said she walked to work because fuel was so expensive.
And while giving a person a lift used to be purely a gesture of goodwill, Hopetoun's Shane Tobin, who doesn't drive himself, said people who had helped him out in the past are now asking for a contribution towards their fuel.
