THE main competition at the Warracknabeal Golf Club last Saturday was the Life members Mixed Pinehurst sponsored by the club’s life members.
A good field of 16 pairs (mixed) competed where the two handicaps are added together and then divided by 3/8. The event is played under the format of both teeing off, then hit your partners ball each for your second shot and then pick the ball of your choice and take it in turns to hit until it is in the hole.
Winners of this event with a score of 70 6/8 (after handicap deducted) was Carolyn Morcom and Mick Marchment. Well done to these two regular golfers.
Runners up were Casey Phelan and Jake Jess on 73 4/8. Good scores were Daryl and Sue Sanford on 73 6/8 and Richie Bett and Julie Bayles on 75. Well done to all that played.
For those that wanted to play in the morning or extras in the afternoon there was a stableford event for the men with Alan McLean (21) winning with 36 stableford points followed by David Trippett (20) with 31 points.
There was no-one on the ninth hole second shot and no nearest the pin (both men and ladies) on the fifth hole. Jake Jess was nearest on the seventh hole and Casey Phelan for the ladies. On the 13th hole was Carolyn Morcom.
Next week’s event is the stableford singles knockout qualifier sponsored by Greg and Julie Pearson.
Start tuning up shortly for the mens championships which commence on July 15, then 22nd and 29th July and also Saturday August 5. More details later as to how this works as I believe it may be that you have to play three of those four weeks to qualify for winning your respective grade.
Seems like a good system to me.
Last Thursday’s Palace Hotel Meal Run was held with Glen Hose winning the front nine holes with 20 stableford points followed by David Baxter on 19 points. The back nine holes was won bvy Dean Gunn on 18 points followed by Dennis Murphy (being runner-up on a countback) with 17 points. 18 hole winner was David Baxter with 36 points.
Nearest the pin seventh hole was Gary Krahe and on the 13th hole was Wayne Dovaston.
Joke of the week
Kay Picken got pulled up for speeding recently. She says, “Is there a problem officer?”
“Yes”, he said, “you were speeding.”
Kay, “Oh I see.”
Policeman, “Can I see your licence please.”
Kaye, “No, I don’t have one.”
“You don’t have one,” he said.
“No, I lost it four years ago for drunk driving.”
“What about your registration papers,” he said.
“Sorry, the cars not registered. I know that because I stole it two days ago.”
“Stole it?” he said.
“I stole it and I murdered the owner and you will find him in the boot of the car in parts as I hacked him up and put him in a bag.”
The policeman runs back to his car and called for reinforcements.
Within minutes five police cars pull up. A senior policeman comes to the car with gun drawn and says, “could you please get out of the car.”
Kay gets out, “is there a problem sir?”
“My colleague says you have stolen this car and murdered the owner who is in the boot.”
Kay said, “murdered the owner, are you serious.”
“Could you please open the boot,” he says.
“There is nothing there.” He then says, “is this your car?”
“Yes”, she says, “here are the registration papers.”
He says, “do you have a licence?”
“Yes”, Kays says and shows him the licence from her bag.
“What’s going on here,” he says, the officer told me you stole the car, didn’t have a licence, no registration and there was a murdered body in the boot.”
Kay says, “Bet the lying bugger also told you I was speeding.”
