Monitors on the move for ICU patients
Transferring between clinical units at Grampians Health's Horsham campus has just taken a step up in safety thanks to five portable bedside monitors.
Intensive-care patients are the beneficiaries of the new equipment, five Intellivue X3 monitors donated by Wimmera Base Hospital Ladies' Auxiliary.
The devices connect to the bedside monitors of each ICU bed. When patients need to be transferred to radiology or the operating suite, they enable clinical staff to continue monitoring vital signs such as heartbeat and blood pressure.
ICU associate nurse unit manager Anne Russell said the "mini-brain" monitors had up to four hours of battery life, which was ample for most medical transfers.
"The previous monitors had become obsolete so we are very grateful to the ladies' auxiliary for funding the purchase of five brand-new devices," Ms Russell said.
“Our team can make these transfers with the confidence of knowing they have an accurate reading of their patients at all times.”
