Memorial showcase celebrates 20 years
Local talent of all ages graced the stage at Horsham Town Hall last Saturday November 16, during the annual RM Variety Showcase as they commemorated the 20 year anniversary.
The showcase has been held since 2004, in honour of the late Richard Morris, who was passionate about the performing arts and allowing people to grow and shine on stage.
Past students and those who knew Richard decided to create the showcase and scholarship to support the local talent around the region.
Mr Morris' wife Jan said it was a "magnificent" night, "it's the best we've ever had," she said.
Even though the theatre wasn't full, Mrs Morris said they were thrilled with who showed up.
"People stuck around and there was a great supper afterward," she said.
RM Memorial Scholarship ($3,000) was awarded to Sienna Walsgott and the recipient of the Alex Rathergeber Performing Arts Scholarship ($1,000) was Prue Heard.
Loucas Vettos, Chloe Findlay and William Meyer were all awarded the RM Memorial Scholarship Encouragement award where they received $500.
"It's all judged on passion," Mrs Morris said.
"To see the amount of talent on stage and see their connection with it, is brilliant."
Jaimie Clarke was one of the many original performers in the RM Showcase and was lucky enough to share the stage with her son Archie during the 20th anniversary, harmonising as they performed a medley of Pink songs.
Mrs Morris said they have already started to plan next year's showcase.
"November 15, has been locked in with the Town Hall," she said.
"We want a full house next year."
