Good weather, great music and a crowd of about 250 marked the opening of Horsham’s Riverfront Meeting Place on Sunday.
The free event, at the riverside end of Firebrace Street, featured live music, food trucks and games for the youngsters.
The Meeting Place has been designed as a starting point to explore the riverfront, with sheltered seating areas, a landscaped garden and festoon lighting.
It will also accommodate up to three mobile food and beverage vans.
“There was a really good mix of ages there, including young families,” Horsham Rural City Council Mayor Robyn Gulline said.
"Overall, most people were really happy with the new space, and people I spoke with said they would come again if it became a regular occurrence.
“The atmosphere was very relaxed and it was great to get such good support from the community."
The developments are part of the broader City to River Masterplan, a 20-year project to improve and activate the Wimmera River Precinct and its link to the Central Activity District of Horsham.
The nearby Nature and Water Play Park is set to be completed at the end of next week.
