Looking back: our favourite sporting pictures and stories of 2024
This year was a busy year on the regions sporting fields.
As 2024 winds down, we are reflecting on some highlights of the calendar year.
On this occasion we are looking at some significant sporting stories.
As summer sport returned for the start of 2024, the Horsham Hornets had a milestone.
Caitlin Jones-Story became the first Lady Hornet to play 100 CBL matches.
Speaking of milestones, football umpire Frank Marklew officiated his 1000th match during round 10 of the HDFNL season.
Returning to the summer season, Horsham Lawn's pennant were victorious in the 2023/24 CWTA season.
The Hornets also hosted the CBL south-west grand finals, unfortunately for Scott Benbow's side were defeated on their home court.
However, they reversed the result in the 2024 decider in Matt Lovel's 200th senior match.
Local cricketers Zarli Knight, Ayva Mitchell and Lily Reading rounded out the cricket season with victory in the Marg Jennings Cup for Geelong.
The 2024 winter season started off with a bang as the Horsham Falcons returned to action on the soccer pitch after a hiatus.
And as the Wimmera and district leagues wound down, emerging athletes were named in representative squads.
Luke Miller featured in the V/Line Cup for the GWV Rebels, whilst he was selected for the Western Waves and the HCA for the upcoming country week carnivals alongside Jobe Dickinson.
While Horsham's youngest footballers learnt from a local hero as Joel Freijah and three Western Bulldogs teammates bought a come and try super clinic to City Oval in early December.
While in his debut CBL season, Hornets young gun Micah Livingstone was named conference MVP as Horsham completed the minor/major double.
